What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the art of conscious living and when practiced regularly can bring about significant benefits to our health and well-being.
Found in many eastern philosophies, mindfulness was introduced into mainstream western culture by Jon Kabat-Zinn, professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where he founded the world renowned Stress Reduction Clinic.
Why is it good for me?
Regular daily practice of mindfulness can produce significant changes in your body. Your nervous system becomes more regulated, your mind is more settled and focused and you develop a different relationship with your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations.
When this happens you begin to experience an increased sense of well-being on a physical, psychological and emotional level.
How do I practice mindfulness?
Mindfulness is about consciously paying attention in the here and now, in an open and non-judgemental way. It is about bringing our awareness into the present moment with acceptance and without trying to change anything. We can do this in a number of ways such as through observing our breath, scanning the body or through yoga.
